Conformation
General Appearance - Walter was almost solid red with a white blaze and chest; there was nothing flashy about him. He was shown at 60 pounds. He was beautifully balanced and an excellent mover from every angle. He was very clean, well-muscled dog with a beautiful outline and very good bone. He was sweet, gentle dog who got along with every one. He did not live with us. Walter was owned by the Hartt's, a gift from his parish in NJ where is an Episcopal priest. He roamed the grounds around the rectory and church, not spending his time on a leash. and was leash-trained on his show week ends; despite that, he delivered a credible, dignified performance in the show ring, without the antics that might have been expected under the circumstances. He had a thick, healthy coat, with no allergies or skin problems. He was exceptionally sound to the day he died at age 11.
Head - Walter had a very long, clean, elegant head with virtually perfect layback and a beautifully etched stop which extended the full length of his skull. His eyes were almost black, properly set, clear and healthy. He had very small, fine ears which rosed naturally. His jaw was wide and true, with absolutely even teeth; he buttoned up with no teeth showing. He had excellent pigment. We would have liked slightly more length to his jaw.
Body - Walter was a sound, cobby, well-balanced, very correct little dog with beautiful shoulders, topline and tail set; good rib; and an exceptionally good rear. His brisket was not quite as deep as his brothers’. He had a strong, thick neck, not quite as arched as most of our other males. He had perfect little cat feet. He had a properly set, almost straight tail with no problems.
Show Record
Walter was never shown as a pup, and was not specialed. When father Hartt showed up in his clerical collar at a Long Island Bulldog Club, everyone know we had heavy support for Walter -- he won Best Adult in match. He had a specialty reserve at the Bulldog Club of Philadelphia specialty under Jean Hetherington, and took his majors under Mrs. Thomas and Mr. Shaw. He was the third male from his litter to finish.
Breeding Record
We finished all three males from Walter’s litter, and only used the one that we considered best of the three at stud. Unfortunately for Walter, he wasn’t the best – so he was never bred. He was 11 years old when he died.
