Conformation
General Properties - Rosie was our foundation bitch, obtained from Betty Davey. Rosie was an elegant 52 pound bitch. She was deep red with clear white markings and a short, slick "patent leather" coat. Her eyes, lips, nose and muzzle were fully pigmented in "shoe polish black. " Her eyes were healthy, well-constructed and almost black -- she didn’t even have tear stains. She had no allergies or skin problems of any kind. She was cheerful, outgoing and sociable, but tended to get excited when she met new people. She got along well with dogs and other animals. Rosie moved well coming and going, and had a wonderful roll; she had an impressive topline which held together perfectly when she moved. Her nostrils were on the tight side. She showed quietly with her mouth shut, but would pant slightly at the end of her daily two-mile walk – although she would still be moving strongly ahead of the other dogs.
Body - Rosie was a barrel-chested bitch with had outstanding rib, chest, brisket, topline and tail set. She was medium-backed, with a perfectly placed roach which flowed smoothly in an unbroken line to a low-set, wagging tail. She had beautiful tuckup and a lovely underline. She had a strongly arched neck, good bone, and a classic pear shape. Her shoulders and elbows were well constructed. Her pasterns were good, but her feet were not as tight as we would have liked.
Head - Rosie’s head was hard to fault. She had a long, very clean, absolutely flat skull with impeccable layback and a perfectly etched stop which still appears in her great-grand children. Her nose was properly set and laid back perfectly into her skull. Her jaw was exceptionally wide; she had good turn-up and buttoned up perfectly with no teeth showing. Her teeth were perfectly straight. Her ears were small, very fine, and correctly placed.
Show Record
Rosie was our first quality show dog, and her show record suffered from our inexperience. She was never shown as a puppy , and was shown sporadically in the American-bred class until after she had her first litter of pups at age two. We pointed her as soon as she was shown in the open class, and she had several specialty class placements and a reserve at a specialty backup in her very limited show career. We lost her in whelp with her second litter, so she never finished.
Breeding Record
Her Ancestors - Rosie’s sire, Ch. Smasher’s Al Capp, was a multiple specialty winner who went BOS at the 19--- BCA National show. He was a Hall of Fame producer who sired ---- champions; he died at the age of 12. Rosie’s dam, Satuit Quintessa, produced three champions. Rosie’s grandsire, Ch. Glyndebourne Royal Fanfare, was a group placing specialty winner who sired 18 champions; he and a littermate lived to 13. Beau’s dam, Luthien Diva of Glyndebourne, accumulate 12 or 13 points; she lived to 15. Bo’s sire, Ch. Deydel’s Dynamic Zeus, sired 9 champions.
Her Progeny - Rosie had one litter of four. When she was in whelp with her litter, she and Herc used to sit op the couch together. She wasn’t the greatest mother in the world — she wasn’t sure what those things were or why they were bothering her, but she put up with them. Once they could play and move about, she enjoyed her entourage.
Three finished their championships and the fourth accumulated ten points before she tore her cruciate ligament and ended her show career. CH. RESOLUTE DREADNOUGHT was the first to finish; his three majors included going WD at the Bulldog Club of New England Specialty under Nancy Paul. He was Reserve Winners Dog the next day at the Bulldog Club of Maine Specialty under Bob Hetherington; Best in Futurity at LIBC under Eileen Westfield. As a pup, he was Best in Match at the Bulldog Club of Philadelphia Match with over 70 entries, under English judge Tony Darmanin, and Best in Match at LIBC under Kerry Peccoraro. He has 10 champion get and is eligible for the BCA Hall of Fame. Ch Satuit Resolute Ali Baba finished two days after his brother, seven weeks after his firsts appearance in a show ring. Ch. Resolute Walter made his debut at the Bulldog Club of Philadelphia specialty show, where he was Reserve Winners Dog under Jean Hetherington. Her influence is felt to this day through the get of her son, CH. RESOLUTE DREADNOUGHT and the produce of her daughter, Resolute Hippolyta of Satuit.
We lost Rosie and her entire second litter just before she was due to whelp.
