Conformation
General Properties
Rascal is a mischievous, joyful, outgoing dog. His dances through life with a twinkle in his eye, supremely confident that absolutely every one is his next new friend. Every walk in the yard is grand adventure, filled with butterflies to be chased, leaves to be caught, and puddles to be leaped. He has no idea how imposing he looks.
He looks chiseled - - massive, heavy boned, clean, well-balanced and well muscled. He is clear white, with brilliant red brindle markings over each ear. His coat is shot and sleek – it looks painted on. He has an excellent roll, and good front and rear movement - - he moves his width in front, skimming the ground. He packs lots of dog into a 55-pound package.
Head
Rascal has a long, classic brick-shaped head, with a long, deep stop. He has tremendous width and turn of jaw with perfectly even teeth; his jaw buttons up perfectly and is absolutely true. He is very strong through the foreface, with excellent width in the upper and lower jaws. His nose is well laid back into the line of his skull, and his profile is flat. He has heavy, glossy black pigment which fully rims both eyes and covers most of his muzzle. His eyes are almost black, round and well placed. He has small, fine, perfectly rosed ears, well-set along the line of the skull.
Body
Rascal is short backed, barrel-chested dog with massive shoulders and deep, well-sprung rib. His brisket is well-developed from the front and in profile, flowing cleanly into a well-tucked-up underline. His topline is correctly roached. He has a real tail, set low; with no problems. He has a muscular, well-arched neck, set cleanly; and he carries his head high. His rear is sound and correctly angulated. His feet and pasterns are average . . . typical of what’s in the ring right now, but ideally we’d like them a little tighter.
Health and Temperament
Rascal is a healthy dog with none of the common bulldog problems. He has an excellent throat and wide nostrils. He is more heat-tolerant than most. He has no eye problems of any kind. He has no allergies or skin problems. His mother is now eight, and his maternal grandmother is almost 11. Most of his ancestors in the last four to five generations lived 11 to 12 years.
Rascal is a confident, outgoing, sociable dog who gets along well with people in general as well as other dogs of both sexes and people. He’s a happy, uncomplicated dog - - he likes his life, he’s afraid of nothing, and every one is his friend.
Show Record
Rascal was rarely shown as a pup - - we put showing on hold while we moved. He was Best Puppy from the 6-9 month class at the BCA Division 8 Specialty under Walter Bloom. He was BOW at the Capital Bulldog Specialty under Fred Haynes for his first major, and finished with three majors, including a BOB over specials from the classes. He was BOS at the BC Maine Specialty and Best of Breed at the BCNJ Specialty.
Breeding Record
Rascal’s first litter was born in May 2005; the breeders kept two of the seven pups and we have one, with another two in show homes. The dog we have was Best of Winners at the BC Connecticut Specialty for a 4 point major. He has several litters on the way.
