Conformation

General Attributes - Herc was a healthy dog whose only medical complaint was arthritis as he aged.  He never had any of the hereditary problems which seem to plague our breed.  Herc was bright red with flashy white markings.  His pigment is excellent and he has never had any coat or skin problems.  He was shown at 62-63 pounds.

Head - He had a long, flat skull with a clearly defined stop, and a beautiful brick-shaped head with a particularly wide, well-turned jaw.  He had wide, open nostrils, a good throat and has never had breathing problems.  His ears are small, fine and properly set.  His eyes are almost black and completely problem free - he didn’t even get tear stains.

Body -  He was short-backed and heavy-boned, with excellent rib, good brisket and a strong, well angulated rear.  As a younger dog his front and rear movement were flawless, and he had a lovely roll.  His tail is well set, carried properly, and usually wagging.

Attitude/Temperament -  He had a calm, outgoing disposition; friendly toward people and other dogs as well.

Show Record

Herc finished his championship in eight weeks, finishing with a major under Breeder/Judge George Fowler.  His first time out as a special, he went Best of Breed under Harriet Borsuch and Group 4 under Sandy Schwartz at the back-up show to the Bulldog Club of New Jersey Specialty.  He took many Best of Breeds after that and was group placing.

Breeding History

Herc is a BCA HALL OF FAME Top Producer (with 14 champions) and Bulldogger cover dog (Number 83, February 1998) who is pictured at about age 2 ½ years.  He is from a strong tail-male line: his sire produced 18 champions, his grandsire produced nine, his great-grandsire produced 10.  He died in 1997; luckily we froze his semen for our use at an early age.

Herc lived until 10.  His father, CH. GLYNDEBOURNE ROYAL FANFARE lived to 13,along with a littermate; his grandmother Diva died at age 15.

Both his parents were multiple specialty winning, BCA Hall of Fame top producers.  His mother, CH. DEYDEL'S MATILDA produced three champions in addition to Herc -- his litter sister Ch. Dey Del's Minerva at Bellisima was Best of Winners at the 1988 Nationals, his litter brother was a pointed at the BC Maine specialty and a half brother finished his championship with a five point major at the Bulldog Club of Philadelphia Specialty.

Among his get are two Hall of Fame producers, CH. RESOLUTE DREADNOUGHT and CH. CAMELOT'S DAISY MAY BUMSTEAD , several Group placing dogs and bitches; six of which were pointed at specialties, including one who finished at the 1995 Nationals; another four have one or more specialty reserves and three have specialty sweepstakes and/or breeder’s futurity wins.

His grandchildren are also winning at the Specialty level and are group placing from the classes.  Twenty have Specialty majors; nineteen of these have finished their championships.  Four grandchildren have specialty reserves from the puppy classes and three are group placing from the classes.  We are seeing equally consistent results from outcrosses and tight line breedings on Herc’s Lines.
