Conformation

General Properties  -  Helly is poetry in motion --- a clean, elegant, very typey animal who makes a bulldog roll look graceful.  Like her parents, Ch. Shrink-a-Bull Top Gun (Gunner) and Ch Helfyre’s One Hot Number (Zoe), Helly is a natural show dog who can’t take an awkward step.  Helly is one of those rare bitches who is as competitive at the specialty level-- with specialty majors in the US and Canada -- as she is in the all-breed ring, where she is group placing from the classes.  She is a mouse-gray fawn with lots of flashy, clear white markings, and just enough black mask to look like eye shadow.  On most dogs, a plain fawn color would be a disadvantage – Helly convinces you that the other dogs are garish and overdressed.. She is a perfect lady at 45 pounds, with beautiful bone and muscle.

Head and Neck  -  Helly has a long, clean brick-shaped head head with a wide, well-turned jaw, and a deep stop which runs the full length of her skull.  She has exceptionally fine, perfectly rosed ears, set perfectly along the line of her skull.  Like all her littermates, Helly’s eyes are so dark you can’t see the pupils, and her pigment is very dark and heavy.  Her eyes are healthy and properly set.  Her nose is well laid back into her skull, with wide-open nostrils.  She has well-developed cheeks and foreface, with a broken wrinkle over the nose.  She has a strong, beautifully arched neck set smoothly into her shoulders without a break.  She is an excellent breather who shows with her mouth shut regardless of the weather.

Body   -  Helly is a well-conditioned, hard-muscled little dog.  She has beautiful front movement  from every angle.  She moves straight down from the shoulder in front and straight down from the hip behind, with a perfect roll and lovely reach and drive.   She is well-balanced and cobby, with a low set tail and a very good top line.  Her shoulders and elbows are strong and are well placed. She has a nicely rounded brisket, well sprung rib, and excellent tuckup.  She has small, tight feet. She has a short, slick coat that sheds dirt naturally.  She has a strong, well-muscled rear, slightly straighter than ideal.

Health and Temperament  -  Helly has no health issues.  She is a sound, active dog whose parts work the way they should.  She breaths well.  Her eyes are structures correctly, and her low set tail clears her body with no tightness.  She is bold, cheerful, and eager to please. Like her mother, she is exceptionally sensitive and attuned to her handler in the show ring.  She likes everyone, regardless of species.

Show Record

Helly took a four point major under Dr. Harold Orenstein at Taconic Hills, and a five point  major the same weekend, going WB at the Bulldog Club of Connecticut Specialty under Ann Heir.  She was BOW at Philadelphia Dog Fanciers under breeder-judge Lynn Smith, and BOB at ----------- under -----, where she went on to a Group placement from the classes.  She vacationed in Canada, where she was BOW at the Bulldog Club of Central Canada under --------, and came home to finish at ------

Breeding Record

What's Behind Her

Helly's father, Ch. Shrink-a-Bull Top Gun (“Gunner”), is 10 and still actively used at stud. He’s a little arthritic and his eyes are a little dry, but he still hops on and off his favorite recliner, and he still dances for dinner. He’s still eager and willing to make puppies.  Helly is his second champion, with another six in the home stretch and a new group ready to start soon.  Sonny's paternal grandfather Ch. DEYDEL STEADFAST HERCULES lived to 10; Herc's father CH GLYNDEBOURNE ROYAL FANFARE and a littermate lived to 13, and their mother lived to 15. Helly's mom, Ch. Helfyre's One Hot Number, is five, with no health problems. Her mother and grandmother are still going strong at age 8 and 10 respectively. Helly's maternal grandfather, CH. CHEROKEE DAKOTA ROBERT, broke the then all-time record for specialty best of breeds as a veteran being shown in BOB against his great grandchildren.  Robert’s dad, CH PRESTWICK GAWAIN, is holding his own at 12.

Gunner is described and pictured on our web site. He came to live with us when he was seven, and was not actively at stud until then. His first few pups are now in the show ring. Helly's brother Maxwell Lonie has two majors under breeder judges and is now actively being shown . Her other littermate Resolute Helfyre Son of A Gun has 8 points and is looking for his majors to finish this spring.  From a breeding to Resolute Mountain Melody, Resolute Absolute Force has nine points and Resolute Magic Dragon (“Puff”) was Best in Sweepstakes under Pat Hartle and Reserve Winners Dog and Best Puppy under Frank Kauffman from the 9-12 month class at the BCNJ Specialty. Puff was Best Puppy Dog at the BC Connecticut Match Show from the 6-9 month class under Fred Haynes. He has 14 points and three majors, two under breeder/judges. From breeding to Ch. Camelot’s Steadfast Jezebel, Ch. Camelot’s Brazin Hussy she was Best Puppy in Match at Lower Susquehanna BC under Paul Thornburg and BOS in Futurity at BCNJ under Jill Lange.

Herc and Herc's parents are also described and pictured on our web site, along with most of the champions Herc produced. Herc is a Hall of Fame producer, as are both his parents.

Helly's Dam, Ch. Helfyre's One Hot Number (Zoë), finished with four majors with most of her points under breeder judges. She completed her championship with a four point major, going Best of Breed over six specials. She produced two champions from her first breeding to Ch. Warmvalley Buddy Boy; both finished with specialty majors and specialty sweeps wins,
also being shown from that litter is Helfyre’s Walk in the Park, who is pointed and was reserve at the BC Philadelphia Specialty under English breeder judge Carol Newman.. Helly is her dam's third champion.  Zoë's dam, Ch. Helfyre-Lebo's Grace Poupon (Gracie) , has produced three champions to date, including the number one bitch in the country, Ch. Helfyre Little Pond Promise. Gracie's sire, Ch. Shrink-A-Bull Snow Drift, finished with multiple specialty majors. Gracie finished with specialty majors, as did her dam, Ch. Helfyre's I'll Show You (Patch), who finished with two specialty majors. Patch's sire, Ch. Kozabull Glyndebourne Zeke, was the top bulldog in the county in the early 1990's, and is also a Hall of Fame Top Producer. Zeke's sire, Ch. Hoogh's Royal Ambassador (Lefty), had multiple specialty Best of Breeds, and finished with specialty majors, including a Nationals week win; he is also in the BCA Producers Hall of Fame. The bitch line behind Sonny is exceptionally strong and produces a very consistent look. Zoe's line, bred by Sara Carnrick, has been remarkably consistent through at least four generations; this line of bitches consistently produces exceptional toplines and tail sets, beautiful fronts and very classic "English-type" heads with tremendous length, perfect layback, very wide jaws, and beautiful stops. The ears tend to be very fine and feet are very small and tight. They tend to run big, and colors could be improved.
