Conformation

General Properties - Gunner is a classic, compact, exceptionally well-balanced dog who weighs approximately 60 pounds. At 9 1/2 years old his movement is still exceptional – with excellent reach and drive, a lovely roll, and strong, straight movement from the front and the rear. He is a calm, easy-going, sociable dog. He still has a great deal of presence — in the ring he was a natural showman who still gaited easily on a loose lead and then stacks himself squarely in front of the judge with his head up, his mouth shut, and a "here I am" look in his eye. He has an excellent throat and palate and wide-open nostrils. Although he is now a senior citizen, he has no health problems of any kind. He is white with a small bright red patch above his tail and moderate red ticking. His coat is thick and glossy, and he has no allergies or skin problems.

Head - Gunner has a clean, well-proportioned brick-shaped head with a long, broad skull and a wide, true jaw that buttons up perfectly with no teeth showing. He has good length to his jaw. His layback is very good. His eyes are properly set and completely healthy, clear and almost black, with fully pigmented rims. His pigment is heavy and appeared early. He has small, fine ears which are properly set and perfectly rosed.

Body - Gunner is a cobby, well-proportioned dog with excellent shoulder and rib. He is short-backed, but has a top line and a nicely arched, well muscled neck. He has an exceptionally strong rear which remains heavily muscled and well-angulated as a approaches his eighth birthday. He has a real tail which is correctly set and wagging constantly; he has never has a tail problem of any kind. His feet are small, neat and very correct. He is a very clean dog with enough wrinkle, flews and dewlap to meet the standard – but nothing coarse or overdone.

Show Record

Gunner came to live with us at age seven. As a class dog, he was shown locally, primarily at all-breed shows, and he was rarely shown as a special. As a pup, he was Best in Futurity at LIBC and Best Puppy in Match at BCNJ and LIBC. As a Veteran, he was Veteran Dog at the 1999 National Show and a number of other specialties, including BCA Div I, Bulldog Club of New England, and Long Island Bulldog Club.

Breeding Record

Since Gunner was only shown locally as a class dog, and never seriously specialed or advertised, he was almost unknown as a prospective stud until recently. He came to live with us in late June, 1999. Since then, he has been bred, with great success.  He is producing exceptionally healthy, good-sized litters (averaging 5 pups). He produces relatively little white: only 25% of his pups are primarily white, and each of these has one or two piebald patches. Our assessment is that he consistently produces clean pups with short backs, and excellent bone and rib. He is doing an exceptionally nice job with tails, even when bred to bitches with tight screw tails, and gets the size down when bred to a big bitch. We are seeing very nice fronts in general.

Ch. Camelot's Brazzin' Hussie  was Best of Opposite in Futurity at the BCNJ Futurity.  Ch. Resolute Magic Dragon was Best Puppy Dog at the BC Connecticut Match and Best in Sweepstakes, Best Puppy and Reserve Winners Dog at the BCNJ Specialty, finishing with four majors, two under breeder/judges and the other two at back-up shows to specialties  His littermate Ch. Resolute Absolute Force is a standard sized bitch who finished against stiff competition.  Littermates Am/Can Ch. Resolute Rynkly Helfyre and Ch. Maxwell Lonie both finished in style.  Helly took 9 points in one weekend, going Winners Bitch under Ann Hier at the BC Connecticut Specialty and Best of Winners at the back up show.  She was specialty winning in Canada as well, where she earned her Canadian championship, and was group placing in the U.S.  Max earned all four of his majors under breeder/judges: two five point specialty majors under British judges Les Cotton and Anthony Darmanin and two other majors under British judge Fred Haynes and under Donna Mouser.  Another of his pups, Resolute Helfyre Son of A Gun, is getting very nice pups and is with Nancy Schultz to finish his championship.
