Conformation

Color & Coat -  Calvin is a very deep, brilliant red with clear white markings.  His coat is excellent; he has no tear stains, no allergies

Head -  His head is massive, with nice length and a classic brick shape.  His foreface is strong, with a beautiful layback of the nose and skull.  His stop is deep and runs the full length of his skull.  His wrinkle is heavy. His jaw is particularly wide, well turned and true, and his teeth are in a perfect straight line.  His ears are very fine and well set; they rose naturally, as did both his parents.  He has very dark eyes and heavy pigment.  His eyes are clear and healthy, with no extra eyelashes and no structural problems of any kind.

Body -  Calvin is a massive, very heavy boned dog with excellent shoulders, barrel rib, beautifully arched neck, and strong brisket and tuck up.  He is short-backed with a correct roach.  His tail set is low, but his tail is tight. His movement is strong, and he has an exceptional roll.  He has small neat feet.

Temperament: Calvin is a calm, sweet, gentle, friendly dog.  He is confident and outgoing, and gets along well with dogs and humans alike.  He won’t challenge other dogs, and in fact tends to ignore dogs who challenge him.

Breeding Background

Calvin produced his head, bone, color and temperament.  Jaws are outstanding in his line for three generations back, and Calvin produced very wide, well turned jaws, and strong forefaces.  Calvin has four generations of very short-backed, heavy boned, nicely ribbed dogs behind him, and his own pups generally have short backs, nice rib and good bone.  Calvin’s parents and grandparents moved well, Calvin moves well, and his pups tend to move well. He tends to be cleaner and smaller than he is.

He was a good choice when the bitch’s temperament is an issue.  Calvin tended to produce sweet, gentle puppies, even when bred to bitches who tend to be dominant or dog-aggressive.  He tended to improve head size and jaws, and corrected for a plain-faced bitch.  He produced substance, with short backs, top lines and bright color, as does his son, Ch. Resolute Doublenought Seven.

Calvin passed away in December 2000 at the age of 6 1/2 years.
