Conformation

General Properties  - Bobby was shown at 62 pounds.  He was a heavy-boned, flashy red and white dog with a bright red saddle and solid white head, ruff and legs.  His coat sparkled, and he never head skin problems of any kind.  He had an upbeat, outgoing temperament and was a natural showman who finished his championship 7 weeks after his first show.

Bobby was co-owned by Betty Davey and lived with her until her was a year old.  At 11 months, he was "A" framed and spindly.  Betty placed him back with us when she could no longer keep him.  He taught us a lot about how dogs in some lies develop.   As you can see from his picture, he was no longer "A" framed at 15 months.  He was a very balanced dog who set himself up perfectly every time; he moved out easily and correctly from every angle.  He was a very clean, crisp looking dog with an old-fashioned sour expression.

Head - Bobby had nice length of skull, a deep stop and beautiful width and turn to his jaw, which was absolutely true.  His teeth were perfectly straight and even, and his jaw buttoned up perfectly.  His eyes were almost black and completely healthy; he never even had tear stains.  He had very small, fine, properly rosed ears which never needed gluing.  He had excellent pigment.  His skull was broad, flat and deep, with a proper brick shape. His layback was excellent.

Body - Bobby was short-backed heavy-boned dog with outstanding rib, chest, shoulders and brisket.  He had a beautiful pear shape and very good tuckup.  His tail set was a little high and his tail was tight.  He had perfect little cat feet.  He had beautiful front movement – straight down from the shoulder, and a very good roll.  He was a little straighter through the rear than we liked.  His top line was flatter than the ideal.

Show Record

Bobby was an awkward puppy who was never shown until he was 16 months old.  We brought him out when his specialty-pointed brother Duke only needed one point – for the experience.  Duke went Reserve to Bobby at every show for seven weeks, and Bobby finished two days after Duke did.  We never campaigned him as a special, although he was shown at local specialties, where he usually made the final cut with Zeke and Baritone – who would then beat him.

Breeding Record

We finished all three males from Bobby’s litter, and only used the one that we considered best of the three at stud.  Unfortunately for Bobby, he wasn’t the best – so he was never bred.  He was 9½ years old when he died.
